What You Say Matters by Beth Griffith, CPCC

I watched an interesting program the other day about how the internet can destroy one’s life. It showcased two different scenarios where mindlessly tweeting something, which can go viral at any moment, can ruin your reputation, destroy relationships, and even involve national security. It made me think about communication out there in the world these days.

Are you 100% responsible for what you say? Is the impact on others and what they do with your words up to you? Whatever way you choose to channel your words, they can be misconstrued, taken out of context, misinterpreted, etc. Something you thought of off the top of your head can go viral, causing pain and undo harm to others as well as yourself.

Perspective: Choose your words wisely the next time you craft an email, blog, tweet, or are just speaking to a co-worker, family member or friend. Being responsible for your communication is incredibly important. What you say does matter and can have far reaching implications. Take the time to articulate your words in a way that is clear, concise and complete, being responsible for what you say and do. You have the power, positively or negatively, to make a difference.
